George Soulos, Professor of Music at Windham College in Putney, Vermont
(1964-1975) and Professor of Music at Greenfield Community College
(1977-2001), attended Northwestern University and the University of
Hartford. He has advanced degrees in piano performance, theory and
composition. A frequent performer in chamber music concerts, he has
appeared as soloist with the Pioneer Valley Symphony and Vermont State
Symphony. His compositions have been aired on public radio stations WVPR
and WFCR.
Mr. Soulos, organist/choir director for First Congregational Church in
West Brattleboro, Vermont, retired from Greenfield Community College in
June of 2001. He lives in Putney, Vermont, with his wife, Jane.
His history with our church: He became organist/choir director in
November of 1978. Since 2007, he and Jane have been spending their
winters in Florida, so he has been serving this church from May through
October. Obviously we have had another organist for November through
April; for the last few years it has been Bill McKim but my memory
doesn't remind me who else has done winter duty - not that it's relevant
to this bio.
He has also written music for us and done a number of benefit
performances for us and for other non-profits in which we have an
interest, including several over the years for the Brattleboro Pastoral
Counseling Center.
